Formed in 2006, the LRC's Special Collections initially housed materials related to the subjects offered by the Institute. Over the past four years, the collection has become more focused on Australian culinary history and culture, building its strength in collecting materials such as books, newspapers journals, manuscripts, personal collections and artefacts pertaining to culinary arts.
The new Special Collections Research Room (SCRR) was launched in April, 2011. The new room is located in the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) near the LRC Training Room, and houses and provides secure access to the major collections — part of the collection is housed separately in the archive storage room located on Level 1, Building B. The SCRR offers an iMac computer, scanner and a quiet reading area for researchers.
The exhibition area is located in the Special Collections Research Room near the entrance. The Special Collections holds exhibitions four times a year and each exhibition will have different theme and topic to give our students, staff and visitors an opportunity to experience some hidden tressures from our Special Collections.
Special Collections is open from Monday to Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm but closed on weekends and public holidays. The resources can be requested by filling in a request form at LRC's loans desk, located on the ground floor, Building C. Researchers from the public are welcome to browse our resources in the Special Collections Research Room by appointment.
